CHULA VISTA BUSINESSMAN AND WOMAN OF THE YEAR ANNOUNCED
----Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center’s Chris Boyd and McMillin’s Lisa Johnson Named----
The Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce has named Chris Boyd of Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center and Lisa Johnson of The Corky McMillin Companies as the businessman and businesswoman of the year. The distinct honor was awarded to each as a way of saying thank you for the hard work and community involvement they take part in throughout the year, according to Lisa Cohen, CEO of the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce.
“Receiving this award is a great honor,” said Chris Boyd, CEO of Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center. “The Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce is an excellent organization and I’m thrilled they recognized my commitment to the local business community.”
Boyd has been with Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center for almost seven years. Sharp Chula Vista is a 330-bed general acute-care facility, also offering comprehensive cardiac and cancer programs. Being one of two San Diego hospitals to be awarded the Distinguished Hospital Award for Clinical Excellence from Health Grades for 2003 and 2004, Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center was also awarded the 2004 Compass Award by Press Ganey for outstanding performance improvement with inpatient satisfaction.
Boyd has overseen the expansion of the Intensive Care Unit, Emergency Department, Outpatient Surgery and Imaging Services, and the development of a joint venture with Radiology physicians for Outpatient Imaging Services. In addition, he has participated in the development of the Foundation Advisory Board and its capital campaign, which has raised over $6 million in the last three years.
Boyd is an active member of the Chula Vista Community, serving as a board member on the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce, Chair of the Chula Vista Friends of Park and Recreation and the Sharp Corporate Chairperson for the March of Dimes. In addition, he has volunteered for the YMCA, American Heart Association and Chula Vista Rangers Soccer Club. Also a member of the Chula Vista Rotary, Boyd was awarded the “outstanding support” award for 2002 and 2005 by the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce.
“As CEOs, our actions directly reflect on our organizations,” said Boyd. “When I perform community service, I’m always there to represent Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center.”
Awarded businesswoman of the year, Lisa Johnson works for The Corky McMillin Companies as the director of community relations, acting as a liaison between the land development and home-building entities and the communities in which they do business. She also stays abreast of government and civic issues within the communities the company builds.
“This award shows how important it is for businesses to have a close relationship with the communities in which they work,” said Johnson. “It’s important for the economic growth of both entities. When you have a partnership like that of McMillin and the community of Chula Vista, both flourish.”
Prior to joining McMillin, Johnson worked at the County of San Diego’s Health and Human Services Agency in the Child Welfare Services department for 12 years. She also worked locally and overseas as a special agent for the U.S. Naval Investigative Service.
Johnson currently sits on the South Bay Family YMCA’s Board of Directors and is a member of the Chula Vista Chamber of Commerce and the Chula Vista Rotary Club. Additionally, Johnson is a trainer and subject matter expert for San Diego State University Foundation’s Academy for Professional Excellence. She is a licensed marriage and family therapist and previously taught couples communication classes within the San Diego Community College District.
